A piece of linoleum flooring somehow ended up on the bottom of the ocean. They both became detritus and here ended up in an uneasy union to remind us about our responsibilities as stewards of our planet.There are 5 pieces in this series available on Chairish, as seen in the interior photo.This posting is for one of them only.Assemblage on 7.5″ x 9.5″ watercolor paper, mounted with mat in 15″ x 17.5″ x 2.25″ shadow box.Artist’s statement:In 1997 I visited the Caribbean island Domenica. This mountainous island is known for its rainforests and is often referred to as “The Nature Island of the Caribbean”. During my stay I became fascinated with the detritus I found in the forest, on the beaches and even on the bottom of the ocean. Sometimes left by people and sometimes by nature, I brought these elements together in my collages to imagine a harmony that isn’t always typical.—Poul Lange less
