Terpereau was known for his Post-Impressionist floralscapes, still lifes, and landscapes. He was an accomplished painter, draftsman, and sculptor. Terpereau created a number of busts, including one titled “Elan de prière durant l extase” (Moment of prayer during ecstasy) for the Salon de 1930. Other sculptural works included a bust of André Guinebert, a French painter, in 1934, and of Saint Jeanne Delanoue in 1958.Terpereau settled in Angers, France with his wife, Helene (Brocas). The couple lived on the Place du Ralliement, where Terpereau also gave drawing and painting lessons. Terpereau’s inner circle included André Guinebert, Paul Hannaux, and Christian Caillard. Terpereau’s workshop has continued to be occupied by artists and teachers, including Jansi.Terpereau is known for his open criticism of the ceiling renovation of the Paris Opera in the 1960s. His August 6, 1962 letter was published in Le Courrier de l’Ouest, where he, along with several other accomplished artists of the period, openly criticized Marc Chagall and the ceiling of the Paris Opera. Terpereau wrote: “… As for the talent of this painter, I am allowed to say that the immense publicity that is given to it does not succeed in making its all too apparent weaknesses invisible.”Paul Terpereau passed away in 1975 in Angers, France. He is listed in Masson’s 2014 Dictionary of Painters and Sculptors of Anjou. less
